Take a trip to the Ozarks and you will find yourself in a splendid array of a time gone by. Surrounded by majestic beauty and a peace that should befall the whole nation, the Ozarks are enriched with culture, pride, and purpose. The people of the Ozarks are steeped with tradition and love of the land. The fine craftsmanship and the Ozark culture is known world-wide.
Craftsmanship that can be encountered in this region on a daily basis include woodworking, basket weaving, and knitting. Anyone who was ever taken on one of these endeavors knows the joy and the effort that goes into completing each piece of work. It is truly a unique piece of work, and dedication and commitment flows through.
The area is also known for it’s uniqueness in musical endeavors. There is much appreciation with string instruments like the fiddle and violin. These instruments are hand-crafted and designed to produce the unique sound of the hill people.
The Ozark Mountains are very old, and are a geologist’s dream. There are many opportunities here to learn about the mountains and how they were formed, and how they have eroded over time. Children love finding Arkansas Diomands and fool’s gold. There are many other rocks and minrals to be found here as well. The area is big in iron production.
For the biologist and botanist, this is a nature paradise. The lush flora and fauna help to make the area what it is. When in the Ozarks, you will find White Oak, Persimmon, Black Walnut, Sassafrass, and the Flowering Dogwood to name a few. These are some beautiful trees that have multiple uses. Catnip, Licorice, Sasparilla, and Lady Slippers are also common here.
Do watch out for the wild life though, copperheads and cottonmouths can be deadly. Not to mention the black widows and the brown recluses. The key thing is to be aware of your surroundings. Enjoy and respect nature and each other!
